Jim Palazzo of Paragon Health did a great job in helping to meld the cultures of two large cardiology practices and a regional health system into a proposed integrated cardiology practice. He was instrumental, through both on-site work and work at a distance, in helping us define our core values and develop a vision statement. He helped us work through the cultural differences between each practice, the major hospital and the hospital system to develop governance structures for our relationship with the health system, the cardiologists’ relationship with the dominant hospital, and the governance of the cardiology practice itself. This was no easy task given the size and historical independence of the two similar sized and multi-sited practices and the complexity of separate governance structures for both a large system and the major hospital within the system. In addition, he helped us work through an integration plan including the staffing and organizational structure of the two currently separate practices into a unified whole. This role required tremendous insight, experience and tact. Jim was a great facilitator and handled the role with aplomb.
