Dr. Sam Ward with St. Vincent’s, a twelve man cardiology group, has used the coding services of Paragon Health for over four years. After an initial intensive engagement, the group continued to use Paragon to keep them up to date on the rapid changes in the coding environment. The practice has also used Paragon to bring new cardiologists up to speed with proper coding practices. According to Dr. Ward, “Many of their new recruits have been great cardiologists, but not so great at coding.”
Ward recounts, “At the beginning of the relationship, Paragon did a baseline of how we were coding as a group compared to the baseline of other practices. Then they did an intensive six month education program where they worked one on one with our staff.” At the end of the six months, they re-presented the data showing the change in our coding habits. “The change was eye opening”, says Ward. As the practice began to code more appropriately for the work we were actually doing, they found significant gains in reimbursement revenue.
According to Dr. Ward, “while there are lower cost alternatives out there, we continue to use Paragon Health because of the of the highly customized one on one support they receive. Each of our doctors have different kinds of questions based on their specialty, and Paragon is able to work with each of them on an individual basis. This is really important to us”
